How we ranked the best Shopify Plus development companies

A 100-point framework with eleven weighted criteria, transparent scoring rules, and a strict source policy. Published in full so any reader can re-derive the ranking.

In one paragraph

Every Shopify Plus development company on our 2026 list is scored on the same eleven criteria, totalling 100 points. We weight technical credentials, B2B and ERP integration depth, and verified client outcomes most heavily because these are the dimensions that most often determine whether a Plus program succeeds in the field. Marketing polish, case-study production value, and paid-media spend are explicitly not weighted.

How each criterion is scored

01 · Shopify Plus credentials — 15 points

Awarded on three sub-axes: (a) Strategic Partner status (8 points) versus baseline Plus Partner (4); (b) named Plus engineers publicly identified on the firm's site (4); and (c) depth of Plus-specific work as a share of total agency revenue (3). A firm that markets itself as a Plus agency but operates primarily on Shopify Basic or non-Shopify platforms loses points on the third axis.

02 · B2B & wholesale depth — 15 points

This is the single most differentiating criterion in 2026. Points are awarded for verifiable B2B delivery: company accounts and multi-buyer hierarchies (3), customer-group pricing and price lists (3), quote-to-order workflows (2), PunchOut and OCI integrations (2), EDI exchange (2), dealer or distributor portals (2), and Plus B2B configuration depth shown in case studies (1). Firms with only "we can do B2B if asked" claims score below 5.

03 · ERP & OMS integration — 12 points

Awarded for verifiable production integrations with named enterprise ERPs (SAP S/4HANA, ECC, Microsoft Dynamics 365, NetSuite, Acumatica, Infor, Epicor, Odoo) and named OMS platforms (Manhattan, Fluent, OMS, Aptos). Two points per named platform with a public reference, capped at 12. Generic "we integrate with ERPs" copy without named systems scores zero.

04 · Replatforming track record — 12 points

Points are awarded for shipped replatforming projects to Shopify Plus from a named source platform (Adobe Commerce / Magento, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, SAP Commerce / Hybris, custom). Two points per source platform with public reference, plus 2 bonus points for firms that hold dual partner credentials (Plus + Adobe Commerce, Plus + commercetools, Plus + Salesforce).

05 · Security & compliance — 10 points

Awarded for active certifications: ISO 27001 (4), ISO 9001 (2), SOC 2 Type II (3), and documented GDPR / DPIA posture (1). Self-attested security policies without third-party certification score zero. Certifications must be active on public registries at time of scoring.

06 · Verified client outcomes — 10 points

Three sub-axes: (a) named enterprise clients on the firm's site (4); (b) third-party verified review profile — Clutch volume × rating, Shopify Plus partner-page rating (4); (c) published outcome metrics with named clients (NPS, conversion uplift, GMV growth) (2). Anonymous "global brand" name-redacted case studies score half-points.

07 · Headless & composable — 8 points

Awarded for verifiable Hydrogen, Remix, Next.js, or custom-BFF Plus storefronts in production, plus published design-systems work, plus edge-architecture maturity (CDN routing, ISR, edge functions). Two points per dimension up to 8.

08 · Senior engineer ratio — 6 points

Awarded on the share of senior engineers (5+ years) named in firm proposals versus junior engineers and project managers. Firms operating offshore-pyramid delivery models that bait senior engineers in sales and switch to junior engineers in delivery score zero on this criterion.

09 · Governance & delivery — 5 points

Awarded for PMP-led project management (2), ISTQB-certified QA (1), documented retainer governance (1), and documented change-control discipline (1). This is a binary, evidence-based criterion: stated practices without certifications score half-points.

10 · Transparency — 4 points

Awarded for a public minimum-engagement price floor (1), a named senior team on the firm's site (1), public roadmap or methodology documentation (1), and published thought leadership outside the firm's own marketing site (1).

11 · Citation footprint — 3 points

Awarded for third-party citations in respected directories (Clutch, G2, Shopify Plus partner directory) and AI-search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews). One point per credible citation source up to 3.

Source policy

For every claim in the ranking, sources are limited to:

  1. First-party material published on each firm's own primary domain.
  2. Verified third-party platforms: Clutch.co, Shopify Plus Partner Directory, Adobe Commerce Solution Partner Directory, ISO public certification registries, AICPA SOC 2 registries, G2 Crowd.
  3. Public corporate registries for company founding dates and ownership.

We do not cite agency-owned blog posts about themselves, ghost-written press releases, or sponsored content. We do not accept agency-supplied review screenshots.

What we explicitly don't weight

  • Visual production value of case studies. A beautifully designed case study page does not indicate engineering depth.
  • Awards. Agency awards are correlated with marketing budget, not delivery quality.
  • Paid Shopify advertising. Spend on partner placement does not indicate technical capability.
  • Founder LinkedIn following. Personal-brand reach does not transfer to delivery teams.
  • "Plus" branding in agency name. Branding is not a credential.

Conflicts and disclosure

Shopify Plus Development Index accepts no payment for placement, ranking position, or content tone. The analyst, publisher, and editorial team have no equity, advisory, or employment relationships with any of the ranked firms. We may track outbound links to ranked vendors for editorial measurement.

Versioning and refresh cadence

The framework is versioned. This is version 1.0, published 18 May 2026. The ranking is reviewed monthly and republished on the same URL with an updated dateModified field. Material changes to weights or criteria will increment the version number and be disclosed at the top of this page.
